1/144 B787-8/9/10 Update

Hello everyone,

In today’s update I want to share the progress being done with the Dreamliner.
Making the three fuselages took/is taking me quite some time, it is six halves that need to be prepared and not only two as before, so at this point I am being very thorough to make sure these master fuselages are going to be as best as possible.
At the moment I do have all the sections done and the joining of them will begin shortly.

Printing fuselages is not an easy task, there is a bit of size limitation, especially with the 787-10, so the fuselages are, like the real ones, done in a few sections that are later joined.

This union of the various sections is key and it must be done seamlessly. In this case, making the three variants already in one piece means that no cut will be required other than cutting the doors and window openings.

The tail cone has been redesigned, a different fitting was implemented due the new detail for the APU door. This design was done this way to give enough clearance around it to not compromise the details while applying putty and sanding. The position lights were also removed from the tail cone for two reasons, one; to apply the fuselage color/clear coat without those in the way and two, to paint the lights more precisely separately.

The new tail cone was already printed, the new windows are also printed and the next print is the AFT cargo hold for the 787-10 model. Most of these parts are going to be casted, which means that new molds will be made prior the production begins.
The modifications do not end there, I also repositioned the LED hole for the L3/R3 galley ceiling and added seat positions for the galley floors. A third center floor section is also made for those who may want to fill the model with seats, the new window method may allow for more visibility inside.

New renders are being done for the updated instructions, instructions will most surely also be made separately for the -8. -9 and -10 in certain steps. This process is somewhat a bit long, but I am half the way there. I also want to change the “aspect ratio” of the instructions as most renders are more horizontal than squared.

The initial schedule was to release the third batch on December, but this new retool will require a bit more time than that and the objective is to release it before Q1 2025.

Right now I am poured with this project, so I have little time to progress on other projects, that does not mean they are stopped, I will resume as I can progress further with the 787.

I am very excited with the 747, but making long projects does have its cons, so all the support is more than welcomed during these weeks of test, print and mold making/casting.

In the next update I will be sharing the final version of the fuselages, for that, all these molds will already be made so even I am not showing progress frequently, work is being done behind the curtains, in such projects having something to show completed takes longer than usual.

I will keep doing my best and present finished things as soon as possible.
Best wishes,
Guillem
